Putrajaya Sightseeing
Last weekend, I had a great time with my mom sightseeing in Putrajaya, where I call the backyard of KL urbanites because it’s only a 30-minute drive from where I stay.

Putrajaya Botanical Garden, Moroccan Pavilion and Canopy Walkway
During this trip, we went to the Putrajaya Botanical Garden and captured some beautiful moments at the Moroccan Pavilion. We also explored the forest canopy walkway, known as the “tree top walk”, which extends 170 meters across rows of tropical rainforest trees like Jelutong and Keruing.
Discovering Nighttime Attractions
We visited Dataran Putra, the main attraction for tourists who want to take pictures of the beautiful pink Putra Mosque. It is also a popular spot for locals to spend time with their families. We liked the many pedestrian walkways, which were less standard in the KL city centre. It was great because we could easily pick where to go and stroll around, enjoying the lovely views, cool buildings, and incredible nightlights. Consider taking a cruise across Putrajaya Lake to view all the leading architecture and scenic highlights in Putrajaya.
Putrajaya: Some Background
Putrajaya is the federal administrative centre of Malaysia. Established in the late 1990s, it was developed to ease congestion in Kuala Lumpur, the national capital. Here are some critical points about Putrajaya:
- Government Hub: Putrajaya houses most of the Malaysian government’s administrative offices, including the Prime Minister’s office and the official residence, Seri Perdana.
- Planned City: It’s a meticulously planned city, designed with modern infrastructure and vast green spaces, reflecting a vision of sustainable urban development.
- Architecture and Landmarks: The city is known for its stunning architecture, including landmarks like the Putra Mosque, Putrajaya Lake, and the Seri Wawasan Bridge.
- Recreational Spaces: With extensive parks, botanical gardens, and a large man-made lake, Putrajaya offers numerous recreational activities for residents and visitors.
- Events and Tourism: The city hosts various national events and festivals and has become a notable tourist destination for its scenic beauty and architectural marvels.

How to get to Putrajaya from Kuala Lumpur
- Grab Car: The e-hailing service is a convenient way to get to Putrajaya; it can take you to the exact destination of your interest.
- MRT: you may take the Rapid KL-MRT Putrajaya Line to reach Putrajaya Sentral easily; this is the second MRT line, which was just launched in March 2023
- KLIA Transit: Another way to reach Putrajaya Sentral via public transport is KLIA Transit. You can board the train from either KL Sentral or Bandar Tasik Selatan station. This train can also take you to the KLIA Terminal 1 and 2 international airports.
- Join an organised day tour, such as options from Get Your Guide or Klook.
Getting around in Putrajaya:
Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART)
Driverless tram – free rides until 31 July 2024. There are two operating lines:
- Route 1 operates from Monday to Friday, departing from MRT Putrajaya Sentral and proceeding to Lebuh Wawasan, Persiaran Perdana, and Lingkaran Gemilang before returning to the train station. Image source: FB Perbadanan Putrajaya
- Route 2 only operates on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). It goes from MRT Putrajaya Sentral to Persiaran Perdana, then to Lebuh Bestari, Persiaran Timur, IOI Putrajaya, and back to the train station. Image source: FB Perbadanan Putrajaya
The latest update (May 2024) is that Trip 1 is at 9:30 a.m. from MRT Putrajaya Station to IOI City Mall Putrajaya, and Trip 2 is at 2:30 p.m.
